Re: Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
For us, definitely Phil Parkes.

For other teams, Shilton, I guess.
That said, we did knock three past him at home when he played for Stoke.

Schmeichel & Seaman.
I also thought Mark Bosnich was excellent in his Villa days.

New years eve 1966.
Prob our strongest team, Budgie, Hurst, Peters, Sissons, Brabrook etc. As you say, at times it was the Irons v Banks. Think their jock winger Sinclair scored the only goal .

Schmeichel for me but I have to put in a word for van der Sar also. I saw him play for Fulham on a few occasions and he was mustard. Seem to remember him doing ok for the Mancs, too.

Parkesy.
Every time the ball went into the six yard box you knew he would get it but me and my brother used to shout out Parkesy!

Re: Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
Gordon Banks. Mid sixties, around Christmas. I was on the North Bank. We were hammering Leicester but Banks was pulling the ball out of the air all over the shop. Then the inevitable happened. 0-1. Banks was amazing.

Parkes for me as saw him more live than all the others.

Was so consistent.

Re: Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
I'd go Southall and Schmicael too.

Forget Shilton and Clemence though, both vastly overrated and just the best 2 around at the time for England. Seaman is comfortably England's best keeper since banks.

Re: Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
Its all subjective to name "the best" but the names mentioned are all candidates. Modern era its the red nosed dane but Southall was brilliant as was Parkes and Ludo.

Im not bias but am going with Parkes followed by Ludo :-)

Re: Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
I think I'd agree with Southall. Parkes and Shilton not far behind.

Ludo had some great oerformances like at home to Man U last game of the season to rob them of the title.

Re: Best keeper you ever saw play live - and why?
Schmeichel in my experience. At his peak he must have been worth a good few points each season just on his own for Man U. I saw some footage on sky recently of what was in essence a title decider at St James Park in 1996 when Cantona scored in their 1-0 win. He pulled off several great saves just to keep them in it before Cantona put them one up. Shilton always seemed very small and ordinary to me but I am talking from 86 onwards.

Steve Irwin, great keeper especially how he handles the Gators and other dangerous things. Well, at least until he got killed anyway

Thing about Southall, he could always get to the shots you never expected.the low ones in the corner etc

For me, Parkesy

Bloody superb

As a nine year old my dad took me to see England play the Rest of the World at Wembley in '63.
So I was privileged to see the two greatest keepers in my lifetime on the pitch at the same time - Banks and Yashin.

Fair play there Old Iron

Pretty much every lower league keeper we've played against has been world class for that one match, so I'm going to say them.

For us, I've seen both Ludo and Rob Green have absolutely inspired matches.
